Welcome

Welcome

So, you're perusing the SWCP Chronicles? That can only mean you're Martin, Marina, Derek or Lesley.  Or a friend of Martin, Marina, Derek or Lesley or a member of one of their families. Or someone else.

You probably received an email from one of us telling you that you absolutely *must* look at our new blog, what with it being so great and us being so great and everything. You did your best to ignore the email. And the next. And the next. But you've been nagged into submission, and finally you're here!

What's it all about?

The South West Coastal Path (SWCP) is a walking trail which hugs the coastline of South West England. It starts at Minehead in Somerset, quickly passes into North Devon, then traverses the entire coastline of Cornwall and ends at Poole in Dorset, on the English Jurassic coast. On a map it looks like it's probably about 200 miles long. But this is the wiggliest of wiggly coastlines and all those wiggles add up to a staggering (sometimes literally) 630 miles!

Martin, Marina, Derek and Lesley have started walking the SWCP and thought a blog would be a good place to record the experience.

We're also raising money for the Dystonia Society, courtesy of donations from some very kind and selfless people. If you'd like to donate, please visit our Just Giving page. Thank you.

Who the *!!*???

Good question. Martin (that's me) and Marina are a married couple who live near London, England, like to cycle and aren't averse to a good walk. Derek and Lesley are their friends, another married couple from the same neighbourhood who also like to get out and about.

What's the plan?

The plan is to take it one weekend, one bank holiday and literally, one step at a time. There's no grand vision or commitment to finishing the entire SWCP, though I don't doubt that secretly we all fancy the idea. At the current rate of progress, the whole path will take us 4 or 5 years though. So, we'll see.

Photography

Entirely due to the fact that Martin has a posh camera and despite the fact that he hasn't quite got around to reading the instructions yet, Martin  has generally acted as expedition photographer. All photos on this blog, unless otherwise stated, were taken by Martin and are subject to copyright.

That's it!

One more thing...

If you like walking, then maybe you also like cycling. Martin has a blog dedicated to the subject of bikepacking (like backpacking but involving a bike!) which you may find useful. It's here:
